Bus Assistant

About This Role

The Bus Assistant provides essential support for special needs students during bus transportation, ensuring their safety and maintaining order. This role involves assisting students with disabilities, administering basic medical care, and maintaining records while adhering to district standards and state/federal laws.

Responsibilities

• Assist special needs students as they enter and exit the bus
• Monitor student conduct for emotional and physical conditions that may affect safety
• Maintain order among students, supervising behavior and enforcing district standards
• Remain alert to physical and emotional needs of students
• Maintain records of attendance, observed injuries or health conditions
• Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal laws for transporting students with special needs
• Assist in conducting mandatory evacuation drills
• Administer CPR and First Aid when necessary
• Report student concerns to the bus driver, transportation supervisor, or school staff
• Maneuver wheelchairs up ramps, over curbs and inside of bus without assistance

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent
• Must be 21 years of age
• Ability to obtain and maintain CPR and first aid certification
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent
• 1 year experience assisting students preferred

Nice to Have

• One year experience assisting students
• Ability to assist students with disabilities in loading, transferring, securing and unloading
