Building Inspector

About This Role

Perform a variety of field inspection duties for new construction, remodeling, and repair projects to ensure compliance with local, state, and national building codes. Enforce regulations and provide public information for the City of Baldwin Park.

Responsibilities

• Inspect materials and methods in new construction, remodeling, and repair work to ensure compliance with approved plans and codes
• Interpret and enforce applicable local, state, and national building codes and regulations, ordering corrective actions as needed
• Review building permit applications and construction plans for code conformance, issuing permits as authorized
• Conduct field inspections of work sites to verify compliance with approved permits and regulations
• Respond to complaints and requests for information from the public, providing information and preparing correspondence
• Prepare reports related to fire damage, unsafe structures, and non-conforming conditions
• Prepare routine maps and drawings of sewer and water connections and service lines for permanent records
• Issue notices, certificates, stop-work orders, and related documentation
• Maintain accurate records of field inspections and final inspections
• Inspect suspected unsafe or defective construction and recommend appropriate corrective action

Requirements

• High school graduation or GED equivalent
• 5+ years of experience in building construction, remodeling, and addition work
• Possession of an ICC Certification as a Building Inspector
• Valid Class C California driver’s license

Qualifications

• High school graduation or GED equivalent
• Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in building construction, remodeling, and addition work
