Booking Clerk

About This Role

Maintain and ensure the security, confidentiality, and accuracy of all inmate records at the York County Sheriff's Office Detention division. This role involves data entry, processing inmate intake and booking, and communicating with law enforcement and court personnel.

Responsibilities

• Perform accurate and efficient data entry into the computerized jail management system, logging background, appearance, and incarceration reasons.
• Record information on all individuals entering and exiting the facility daily.
• Process intake and booking of all inmates, including entering personal information and criminal charges.
• Run inmate criminal history record information (NCIC) and generate hit confirmation requests.
• Notify classification staff of all hits requiring extradition and perform checks on active warrant files.
• Update charges in inmate records after bond hearings.
• Perform general clerical work, including compiling information, preparing reports, maintaining logs, and entering/retrieving computer data.
• Maintain databases, spreadsheets, and general computer reports.
• Answer telephone calls from the public, providing authorized inmate information and communicating with law enforcement and court personnel.
• Perform primary screening of inmates for medical problems and classification for risk factors.
• Provide screening for Prison Rape Elimination Act and secure inmates' property and monies.

Requirements

• High School Graduation or GED equivalent
• Ability to successfully complete NCIC Security and Awareness Training Course within the first year of employment
