Billing Office Lead Specialist

About This Role

Serve as the primary resource for billing systems, reporting, and operational support within the Patient Accounts office, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant billing operations for a rural community hospital.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the lead billing systems resource for the Patient Accounts office
• Run, analyze, and distribute routine and ad hoc billing, accounts receivable, and productivity reports
• Support billing staff by troubleshooting billing issues, workflow challenges, and system-related questions
• Work across multiple systems, including EMR, billing, and payer portals, to support claims processing and follow-up
• Assist with insurance billing processes, including claim submission, corrections, and follow-up
• Monitor billing trends, identify issues, and communicate opportunities for process improvement
• Collaborate with leadership to support audits, reporting requests, and operational initiatives
• Assist with system updates, testing, or workflow changes impacting billing processes
• Maintain compliance with payer requirements, hospital policies, and regulatory standards
• Provide cross-coverage and support as needed to ensure continuity of billing operations

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing, patient accounts, or revenue cycle operations
• Strong working knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) systems
• Demonstrated experience with insurance billing
• Experience with Excel
