Before and Afterschool Teacher

About This Role

Lead and implement curriculum for a before and after school program, focusing on education, recreation, and STEM activities for children. Serve as a positive role model and ensure a safe, engaging environment aligned with YMCA values.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement curriculum within established guidelines, preparing necessary supplies and equipment for program activities
• Work cooperatively with staff to ensure program quality and provide direction to Assistant Teachers/Teacher’s Aides
• Help achieve YMCA Child Care program goals by promoting individual growth and recognizing children's needs
• Care for the health and well-being of children, administering first aid and reporting incidents promptly
• Provide appropriate and consistent age-appropriate discipline to reinforce positive behaviors
• Report and document notable behavior and situations to supervisors according to policies
• Initiate, strengthen, and maintain good communication with school personnel, families, and community agencies
• Provide ongoing feedback to parents regarding child's development, including parent conferences and assessments
• Maintain required program records and attend regular program activities, department trainings, staff meetings, and special events
• Keep the center clean and presentable and ensure Licensing standards/regulations are met

Requirements

• Meets educational and experience qualifications established by CA state law and Community Care Licensing including 12 ECE units
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people
• At least 18 years of age
• Pre-employment health screening and TB clearance
• LiveScan fingerprint and criminal record clearance

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent, AA or Bachelors degree preferred
• 1 year of previous experience working in a professional child care or school aged program

• AA or Bachelor's degree
