About This Role

Perform entry-level to routine auditing work for the Texas General Land Office's Energy Resources Department, ensuring compliance with standards and timely completion of audit reports.

Responsibilities

  • Performs audits and limited reviews of entry-level to routine nature in compliance with applicable standards and time frames
  • Ensures effective communication with audited companies, GLO personnel, and other relevant parties
  • Researches, reconciles and audits various accounts related to energy resources, including reviews for lease compliance
  • Reports findings from audits and reviews
  • Prepares or assists in preparing audit reports in a timely manner and in compliance with state statutes and internal regulations
  • Records activities through the weekly time tracker and monthly report
  • Assists companies with their royalty reporting and payments using the on-line Royalty Reporting And Control system (RRAC)
  • Develops assignment memorandum and techniques for timely completion of audit work and for ensuring efficient and effective use of time

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Accounting, Business Administration, BBA-Computer Information Systems, Economics, Finance, Geology, Petroleum Engineering, or related degree

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Accounting, Business Administration, BBA-Computer Information Systems, Economics, Finance, Geology, Petroleum Engineering, or related degree.
  • Entry-level auditing work; preferred 1-2 years full-time progressive experience participating in governmental, financial, program area, organizational, performance, policy, and/or compliance audits or audits of state or federal oil and gas royalties, grants, financial statements, contracts, IT systems or governmental auditing.

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in business or accounting
  • 1-2 years full-time progressive experience participating in governmental, financial, program area, organizational, performance, policy, and/or compliance audits
  • 1-2 years of experience performing audits of state or federal oil and gas royalties, grants, financial statements, contracts, IT systems or governmental auditing
  • Experience with Workiva or other audit software
  • CIA, CPA, CFE, APA or CISA certification
