This role is a two-year, early-career development program within the Grid Operations group, focusing on maintaining system reliability, markets, and security functions for the New York power grid.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain processes and procedures to assist Grid Operations in maintaining system reliability, such as Running Orders and Operating Agreements
- Develop and maintain Grid Operations Reliability Standard Audit Worksheets for NERC Compliance
- Provide technical support to Grid Operations Shift Supervisors and Operators during Real Time
- Perform daily review of previous day operations, identifying market or operational significance to be shared with other teams
- Coordinate Grid Operations activities with internal ISO staff including Scheduling, Market Operations, Market Monitoring, and IT
- Develop and perform load flow studies and analysis for reliable and efficient coordination of generation and transmission facility outages
- Provide technical support to Market Monitoring, IT Quality Assurance, and Customer Service regarding Grid Operations
- Act as liaison with the Power System Application Engineering Department to develop, maintain, and update Control Room visualization
- Actively participate in evaluation and development of Phasor Monitoring Unit (PMU) application software, tools, and processes
- Provide support to the Dispatcher Training department by developing and presenting training lectures and simulator scenarios
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering
- Coursework in power systems, electrical engineering, power system components, mathematical modeling of power system components
- Analytical approach to problem solving
- Strong team and interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to clearly articulate technical problems and solutions
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering with coursework in power systems, electrical engineering, power system components, mathematical modeling of power system components
- No prior industry-related or professional experience required; six months of experience from a power related internship, co-op assignment or class project is helpful
Nice to Have
- Master’s Degree (MS) in Electrical Engineering
- Six months of experience from a power related internship, co-op assignment or class project
- Knowledge of industry criteria and practices regarding power system operation and planning
- Working knowledge of UNIX
