About This Role

This leadership role involves leading and driving the enablement of GenAI and Agentic AI within Data Science tools and capabilities for clinical development, overseeing a team of data scientists, and influencing cross-functional stakeholders to leverage advanced analytics in healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of associates and data scientists in DSA, potentially including line-level people managers
  • Coach, mentor, and performance manage direct reports, focusing on talent development aligned with DSS strategy and R&D business needs
  • Identify new capabilities and opportunities for analytics innovation and value creation, forming cross-functional teams for implementation
  • Influence cross-functional stakeholders and Senior Executives to identify opportunities for leveraging data, advanced ML, and AI techniques
  • Represent clinical analytics at critical governance, quality and compliance, and regulatory meetings
  • Translate R&D strategy into functional area plans, collaborating with cross-functional leaders on project prioritization and timelines
  • Foster an innovative and entrepreneurial culture within the team to attract and retain top talent and create an environment of continuous learning
  • Craft functional area strategies, ensuring alignment with cross-functional stakeholder groups
  • Ensure adherence to federal and local regulations, GCPs, ICH Guidelines, AbbVie SOPs, and functional quality standards.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of related experience (BS degree)
  • 4+ years experience with people management and talent development
  • Intermediate-level proficiency in R, SAS or other statistical packages
  • Intermediate-level knowledge of statistical and data mining techniques
  • Intermediate proficiency with visualization tools like Spotfire, Tableau or equivalent
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence Senior Executives and cross-functional leaders
  • Good understanding of clinical development functional areas and related processes
  • Proven track-record with leading complex cross-functional initiatives in Clinical Development

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Master's degree in statistics, mathematics, analytics, bioinformatics, data science or equivalent field
  • 10+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's, 8+ years with a Master's, or 6+ years with a PhD degree. Must have 4+ years experience with people management and talent development.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Machine Learning and other advanced analytics techniques
  • 2+ years experience with agentic frameworks such as LangGraph, OpenAI agents (including orchestration with tooluse), LLMs, vector databases, and retrieval pipelines (RAG)
