This role will support the advanced therapeutics team in the design, production, and maintenance of bioreactor systems, tissue scaffolds, and related equipment. The Associate Biomedical Engineer will contribute to pioneering organ transplantation technology.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with scientists and research associates to design, manufacture, and maintain bioreactor equipment
- Ensure preparation and upkeep of bioreactors for tissue-engineered constructs
- Work closely with scientists and research associates to design, manufacture, and characterize tissue scaffolds
- Enable cell seeding and enhance functional outcomes of tissue scaffolds
- Work closely with scientists and research associates to design, manufacture, and maintain physiologic testing equipment
- Ensure functional assessment of tissue-engineered constructs
- Prepare reagents and solutions to support scaffold production and tissue engineering experiments
- Maintain and track the inventory of scaffold materials, scaffolds, and bioreactors
- Adhere to established protocols to perform analytical techniques and biochemical assays
- Accurately record all data in the in-house data management system(s)
- Assist in preparing data results for presentation to the team
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- Proficiency with 3D modeling software (Solidworks, OnShape, Fusion 360, etc.)
- Experience in 3D printing
- Experience in device design and construction
- Experience in aseptic technique and mammalian cell culture
- Ability to interpret technical data like electronic circuit diagrams, schematics, and blueprints
- Ability to use mathematics to solve problems
- Ability to organize and present data
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good written and oral communication skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related engineering discipline
Nice to Have
- Programming skills (Matlab, C, Labview or Python)
