Supervise the daily operation of aquatics programs, train and evaluate lifeguard staff, and ensure the health and safety of aquatics facilities for the City of Martinez Recreation Department. Maintain order, provide customer service, and enforce rules and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Plan, lead, assign, direct, and participate in work of staff at City's aquatics complexes
- Give direction to lifeguards and swim instructors in planning class outlines and organizing daily rotation schedules
- Ensure all aquatics program participants complete necessary paperwork and receive appropriate certificates/awards
- Monitor complex use, including opening, closing, and securing the facility, and performing pool chemistry testing
- Perform routine administrative duties, including answering phone calls, handling cash, and registering participants
- Receive and respond to questions, concerns, and complaints from patrons
- Lead training sessions, including safety drills and emergency procedures, and ensure staff attend required trainings
- Provide aquatic safety and supervision for patrons, monitoring activities to prevent accidents
- Implement and monitor City policies and procedures, enforcing aquatics regulations and cautioning patrons regarding unsafe activities
- Assist with City special events as needed
Requirements
- Minimum 18 years old
- Minimum 730 hours of experience as a certified lifeguard or equivalent aquatics leadership work experience
- Appropriate clearances from background check/fingerprinting
- Documentation of a negative skin test for TB within the last two years
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (including First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22), Administering Emergency Oxygen, Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto-Injector, Bloodborne Pathogens and Asthma Inhaler Training)
- CPR/AED certified
