Assistant Coach (Outdoor Track)

About This Role

This role will support the Head Athletic Coach in developing a competitive outdoor track team, emphasizing teamwork, leadership, and athletic skills for student-athletes. The Assistant Coach will also maintain high academic standards for team members and manage equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining high academic standards for all student-athletes
• Work cooperatively with the Head Athletic Coach(es) to operate a well-balanced athletic program
• Serve as a positive influence on the behavior of athletic staff and teams
• Engage and direct the team at all varsity events, support supervision at junior varsity and freshman contests, invitational meets, or postseason competitions
• Manage the inventory of sports equipment and care of supplies, recommend new or replacement equipment
• Support student recruitment for the team and develop/recruit equipment managers, scorekeepers, statisticians, etc.
• Ensure all athletes have undergone and passed medical examinations before the regular practice season
• Collect and maintain file records, statistics, news items, and photographs for athletic teams
• Observe sub-varsity practices and games, as required

Requirements

• 18 years of age
• One (1) year of coaching experience in the sport assigned
• CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to enroll and successful complete a CPR and First Aid training course

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• One (1) year of coaching experience in the assigned sport

Nice to Have

• 21 years of age
• Current teacher or classified employee of Spotsylvania County Public Schools
