Perform entry-level civil engineering duties for the City of Rialto, focusing on public works projects such as streets, signals, and water/wastewater systems. Provide assistance in design, construction, and project management while developing foundational engineering skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering duties in support of public works engineering design and construction programs including Streets, Signals, Traffic Control Systems, Traffic Management, Parks, City Facilities, and City Water/Wastewater Systems
- Provide public counter support to developers, builders, contractors and the general public pertaining to City engineering policies and procedures
- Assist construction inspectors in the interpretation of plans and resolution of problems during construction
- Assist in preparing engineering designs, specifications, costs and quantity estimates for public work projects
- Prepare maps, deeds, legal descriptions, and other documents; utilizing specialized computer programs including computer aided drafting (CAD)
- Participate in the preparation and administration of program budgets for assigned area or budgets for assigned projects
- Assist in the preparation and issuance of requests for proposals and contracts to consultants and contractors
- Gather and study traffic data and prepare reports related to traffic counts, speed surveys, level of service, analysis and other related areas of traffic engineering
- Assist in the collection of field survey information and construction surveys
- Prepare a variety of reports, correspondence, letters, memoranda and related documents on engineering projects; maintain project files and records
Requirements
- 2+ years of para-professional civil engineering program experience
- Bachelor's degree in civil or traffic engineering or related field
- Valid California Driver's License
- Ability to obtain Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification
- Knowledge of basic civil engineering design and construction principles
- Knowledge of CAD systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with major course work in civil or traffic engineering or a related field
- Two years of para-professional civil engineering program experience
