As an NDT Assistant, you will support certified NDT Technicians in inspecting critical infrastructure for safety and reliability using methods like X-ray and ultrasound. This role is a vital entry point into a high-demand career path with opportunities for advancement.
Responsibilities
- Travel to job sites, which can include plants, pipelines, or industrial facilities, often with early or overnight shifts
- Set up and prepare equipment for inspection, including assembling X-ray units, laying cables, and cleaning welds
- Assist with inspections by taking readings, holding sensors, or applying test materials under technician guidance
- Follow strict safety procedures when dealing with radiation, heights, or confined spaces
- Tear down equipment and document test results or assist with post-inspection clean-up
- Assist in the setup and utilization of equipment for non-destructive testing of components and materials
- Contribute to performing NDT inspections such as gamma radiography, x-ray radiography, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, and ultrasonic testing
- Help select, prepare, load, calibrate, or operate NDT equipment
- Assist in identifying material defects using testing techniques
- Drive Company vehicles safely and maintain a clean driving record
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic mechanical knowledge
- Knowledge of and willingness to follow applicable safety regulations, policies and procedures
- Ability to work a demanding and flexible schedule, including long hours and short-notice call-outs
- Ability to frequently lift and carry objects up to 75 pounds
- Ability to occasionally lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 150 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme temperatures
- Ability to maintain professional appearance and conduct
- Ability to interact professionally with customers
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Prefer some previous work-related skill, knowledge or experience.
