Aero and Thermal Engineer

About This Role

This role will apply Aero and Thermal expertise to build Operations Performance Management products for power generation, implementing commercially re-usable analytics solutions for production systems. The engineer will perform data analysis, leverage standard platform tools, and develop code components for autonomous live operations, focusing on delivering technical solutions and optimizing power generation processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise and develop technical solutions (configuration, performance estimation) during the pre-ITO process, interfacing with the commercial team.
• Propose various solutions to address complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles.
• Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience, leading small projects.
• Create open-loop and closed-loop optimization solutions for power generation.
• Apply machine learning and first principle models to capture complex processes in generation.
• Use Python to develop production-ready analytics to produce insights into historical and real-time operations.
• Work closely with product owners to understand requirements and recommend suitable engineering solutions.
• Prioritize, prototype, design, build, test, and deploy analytics artifacts following scrum methodology.
• Provide communication, training, documentation, and change management deliverables to increase adoption.
• Assist product implementation for new customers and provide support for existing customers.
• Replicate, troubleshoot reported issues, and offer short-term and long-term solutions.
• Find and interpret data sources, manage large amounts of data, merge data sources, ensure data consistency, and create visualizations to communicate insights.
• Execute in a fast-paced delivery mode and focus on delivering tasks to meet product release goals.
• Work effectively across different internal and external teams for large projects.

Requirements

• 6+ years experience in aero-derivative and heavy-duty gas turbines
• Expertise in thermal, combustion, fuels, emissions, Modeling, Analysis and controls
• Familiar with combustion mapping and tuning
• Solid understanding of power generation, Aero Derivative and gas turbines
• Strong math, data analysis in python and data science
• Experience using machine learning
• Familiar with SQL database programming
• Familiar with tools like Jupyter, MATLAB
• Experience working with AWS, Azure
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
• Ability to take ownership of small and medium sized tasks

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
• 6+ years experience in aero-derivative and heavy-duty gas turbines, with expertise in thermal, combustion, fuels, emissions, Modeling, Analysis and controls

Nice to Have

• Master or Ph.D candidate preferred
• Existing experience in power generation
