Manage patient care services in orthopedic surgery independently with minimal physician supervision. This role involves assessing patients, developing treatment plans, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and participating in quality initiatives to improve patient care.
Responsibilities
- Manage patients with the highest degree of independence in provision of patient care services with minimal physician supervision in a highly specialized area and across the continuum
- Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, diagnostic studies and recognize deviations from the normal
- Develop a diagnosis and work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to formulate and implement the treatment plan
- Surgically close wounds, incision and drainage, debridement, dressing (the surgeon must remain in the immediate area)
- Scrub with collaborating surgeon in operating room
- Perform complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as credentialed, in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care
- Implement appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessment, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, admission and discharge care in accordance with evidence-based medicine
- Identify, analyze, and resolve patient care issues to foster significant improvement in patient care and outcomes
- Dictate and document in an accurate and timely manner
- Perform patient education and maintain provision of preventive health services
- Conduct or participate in multidisciplinary rounds
- Participate in the department call rotation and/ or weekend/ holiday rounding as required
- Prescribe medication
- Participate in quality initiatives to ensure consistent attainment of key quality indicators
- Act as an advanced resource for the specialty area
- Perform minor bedside procedures that are appropriate to the specialty patient population and independent of the physician
Requirements
- Graduate degree in nursing OR graduate of accredited physician assistant program
- Current Physician Assistant licensure OR Florida ARNP License
- BLS certification
Qualifications
- MN or MSN or DNP or PhD or DNS degree in nursing required or Graduate of accredited physician assistant program
- 2 years orthopedic or 2+ urgent care/ED experience preferred
