This role delivers primary care education and training for Alaska Dental Therapy Educational Program (ADTEP) students, maintains patients' oral health, and provides administrative support to the program. The position ensures high-level primary care skills and adherence to standards of care.
Responsibilities
- Deliver education and training to ADTEP students using appropriate training and adult learning concepts
- Assure training systems meet CHAP Certification Board Standards and Commission on Dental Accreditation Standards
- Review and stay current with changes in CHAP services, technologies, and policies to develop and revise educational content
- Instruct and guide ADTEP students in the DHAT scope of practice, including primary oral health care and dental care administration
- Prepare, administer, and score tests, evaluate, and maintain necessary student records
- Participate in committee and programmatic work to promote CHAP system efficiency and effectiveness
- Provide primary oral health care, including dental assessments, treatments, and procedures to patients
- Provide administrative tasks and clinical support duties, including patient scheduling and clinic front desk work
- Monitor clinic equipment status, order clinic and office supplies, and perform chairside dental assisting
Requirements
- Successful completion of the two (2) year ADTEP courses or equivalent
- Two (2) years DHAT provider experience in a public health dentistry setting
- CHAP Certification Board certified DHAT
- Knowledge of training theories and practices including adult learning principles
- Knowledge of professional protocols and practices in community healthcare and patient treatment
- Knowledge of clinical dentistry techniques
- Skill in providing clinical and didactic instruction
Qualifications
- Successful completion of the two (2) year ADTEP courses or its equivalent
- 2 years DHAT provider experience in a public health dentistry setting
