This role is responsible for performing technical work related to permitting and zoning under the direction of the Community Development Director, providing comprehensive support to the department for planning and zoning requirements.
Responsibilities
- Review building, sign, and landscape permits for compliance with zoning codes and land use regulations
- Record all notes, corrections, and denials/approvals for permits and conduct inspections as needed
- Coordinate logistics for the department, including public notices and coordination with internal/external partners
- Respond to inquiries from the public via in-person, email, and telephone regarding zoning and permitting
- Prepare letters, departmental procedures, agendas, resolutions, ordinances, and other required documents
- Process, track, and maintain invoices, departmental purchasing records, and supporting documentation
- Maintain organized records and files for the department in accordance with records retention requirements
- Assist with the preparation and distribution of public notices, mailings, and postings
- Assist with the coordination of pre-application meetings, including scheduling and material preparation
- Participate in pre-application meetings by providing technical assistance and assisting with follow-up tasks
- Prepare travel registrations and expense forms in accordance with policy and procedures
Requirements
- Associate Degree or related field AND one (1) year of experience in development services or planning at the local government level; OR two (2) years of progressively responsible working experience in a planning and zoning environment
- Knowledge of basic municipal principles and practices, and research methods
- Ability to decipher building plans, specifications, and maps
- Ability to effectively perform basic plan check review
- Ability to analyze data and apply information to zoning, urban design, and other planning activities
- Experience reading and reviewing surveys, civil and architectural drawings, and site plans
- Skilled in operating a computer and related software including Microsoft Office Suite
Qualifications
- Associate Degree or related field
