Brackish Experts is seeking part-time Adjunct Professors to teach the Strategy and War course for the Naval War College’s College of Distance Education Fleet Seminar Program (FSP) in Norfolk, VA. This role involves in-person instruction one evening per week during the academic year, preparing students to operate within military and political national security elements.
Responsibilities
- Serve as an Associate Fleet Professor to observe course instruction by current Adjunct Professors and gain familiarity with curriculum and learning management systems (early 2026)
- Participate in a faculty development workshop (summer 2026)
- Teach the Strategy and War course as an Adjunct Professor (September 2026-May 2027)
- Conduct classroom and online instruction
- Review and evaluate student essays, examinations, and other written and verbal assessments
- Develop curricula
- Perform various types of service to the College
- Travel to and lecture at nonresident seminars around the country as required
- Perform educational administrative functions as required
Requirements
- Advanced degree in History, International Affairs, International Relations, Political Science, or a related field
- Teaching experience at the graduate level
- U.S. citizen
- Capability of obtaining and maintaining a Department of Defense Secret security clearance

Nice to Have
- Earned Ph.D. in History, International Affairs, International Relations, Political Science, or a related field
- Familiarity with national security and defense environments
- Graduation from a U.S. military senior- or intermediate-level Service College and JPME I and/or II certification
- Naval War College or other military Service College teaching experience at the graduate level
- Experience and competence in internet-based instruction
- Distance learning experience at the graduate level
