Adjunct - Continuing Education (ESL Program)

About This Role

The Adjunct ESL Instructor provides program services to foster English proficiency and academic growth in students. This role involves developing lesson plans, assessing student progress, and maintaining a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide ESL program services that foster English proficiency, academic learning and personal growth
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, adapting curriculum to individual needs
• Set specific objectives in lesson preparation and weekly lesson plans, achieving them effectively
• Assess pupil academic progress, English proficiency, and personal growth towards instruction objectives
• Maintain and summarize records of pupils' educational progress for reporting
• Identify academic and support services needs of ELLs and cooperate with staff to resolve learning problems
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior conducive to learning for English Language Learners (ELL)
• Budget class time effectively
• Devise written and oral assignments and tests requiring analytical and critical thinking
• Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned
• Participate in department-level planning, faculty meetings/committees and university system groups
• Make effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program
• Uphold and enforce departmental rules, administrative regulations, and university policy
• Notify the director promptly with relevant information impacting student learning

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree
• 2+ years teaching experience
• Criminal history background check
• Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
• Excellent computer skills
• Ability to work with multiple learning management platforms (e.g., Google Classroom)
• Analytical skills to evaluate student work and progress
• Ability to work as part of an instructional team

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required; certificate or Master’s degree in teaching and/or related field
• 2+ years teaching experience

• Demonstrated language proficiency and knowledge of effective teaching methods
