Plan, organize, and deliver instruction in theatre arts, including performance technique, history, and textual analysis, for students at a Youth Performing Arts School. This role involves directing theatrical productions, coaching acting, and collaborating with design faculty.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and deliver a program of instruction based on approved curriculum for theatre arts
- Teach performance technique, theatre history, and textual analysis
- Work with various performing groups in areas of acting technique, character development, and speech-related vocal training
- Maintain records and make reports
- Supervise students
- Serve as artistic director on specified school plays and productions
- Work cooperatively with other artists/teachers in the YPAS program
- Teach acting styles in alignment with various methodologies (e.g., Stanislavski, Hagen, Meisner)
- Teach voice for acting with advanced technique in dialects, diction, and projection
- Direct in-class and after-school theatrical productions
- Communicate theatrical vision and execute through staging, acting coaching, and collaborating with design faculty
- Employ and teach a diversity of performance styles, including classical, contemporary, and musical theatre
- Supervise and participate in frequent evening activities related to the school program
- Complete all training and compliance requirements as assigned
- Perform health services if needed (training provided)
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals
- Establish objectives for all lessons, unit projects, and performances
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Kentucky Teacher certification appropriate to the grade level and curricular assignment (Acting and Theater History)
- Proficiency in advanced acting pedagogy
- Proficiency in theatre history
- Professional and/or academic directing experience
- Three (3) years of successful instruction in acting, theatre history, vocal technique, or equivalent professional experience
- Ability to maintain and provide leadership for a large high school ensemble in after-school rehearsals and performances
- Personal flexibility and cooperative spirit in working with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body
- Possess mature personal qualities and judgement
- Effective communication skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with Kentucky Teacher certification
- Three (3) years of successful instruction in acting, theatre history, vocal technique, or equivalent professional experience.
