This role involves professional accounting work for the City of Madison Water Utility, preparing financial statements, conducting audits, and analyzing expenditures. The position ensures accurate financial records and compliance with regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and approve various financial transactions and reporting activities
- Ensure accurate financial records for the Water Utility
- Assist the Finance Unit Supervisor with Public Service Commission (PSC) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) compliance
- Prepare financial statements and annual compliance reports
- Assist with rate cases, audits, and various accounting and financial analysis
- Manage the finances and fiscal system of the Water Utility (Accountant 4)
- Supervise the Finance Section of the Water Utility (Accountant 4)
Requirements
- 2-4 years of professional accounting experience (dependent on education)
- Experience performing financial audits
- Experience preparing financial reports
- Experience reconciling reports and records
- Knowledge of professional accounting theory, principles, and practices
- Experience with computer software applicable to accounting systems
- Experience with various accounting systems and their applicability to municipal financial operations
- Knowledge of Public Service Commission of Wisconsin rules and regulations
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Accounting, or a Bachelor's degree in a related program such as finance, including completion of advanced-level accounting major coursework, or a Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- 2-4 years of professional accounting experience, depending on education level, with a focus on financial audits, reporting, and reconciliation.
