Access Control Technician

About This Role

The Access Control Technician performs skilled duties in the installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical and electronic locks, access control systems, and related hardware for the Downey Unified School District. This role involves making and duplicating keys, maintaining master key systems, and utilizing software for system configuration and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, open, and remove mechanical and electronic locks and associated hardware, wiring, and related devices
• Operate key-cutting machines to make or duplicate new keys as required
• Change lock combinations and maintain, repair, re-pin, and re-combinate cylinders
• Maintain master key systems, including wireless/electronic access, and ensure security of duplicate keys
• Utilize software programs and online systems to configure, set up, and install access control components
• Maintain electronic and hard copy records
• Work with required departments to assist with door replacement and installation
• Plan and lay out locksmithing tasks, order parts and supplies, and maintain inventory
• Respond to emergency key needs when keys are lost or locks are broken
• Overhaul, adjust, and install door closers, calibrating them to meet handicapped requirements

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Two years of journey-level experience in the locksmithing trade OR a valid locksmith license
• Valid California driver's license

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and two years of journey-level experience in the locksmithing trade, or a valid locksmith license
• Two years of journey-level experience in the locksmithing trade, or possession of a valid locksmith license. Access control systems experience is highly preferred.
