Teach 10th-grade English Language Arts at a nationally ranked urban charter school, focusing on rigorous college-preparatory instruction and service to the community. This role involves monitoring student progress, differentiating instruction, and collaborating with colleagues to foster student achievement.
Responsibilities
- Align curricular standards with state guidelines
- Monitor student progress through standards-based assessments
- Analyze student data
- Differentiate instruction
- Teach 4 English classes per day
- Reserve 2 periods for preparation and collaboration
- Tutor one day per week after school
- Support, plan, and/or co-lead Service-Learning projects
- Advise students through daily Connections class (homeroom)
- Input academic and behavioral data on the school data management system
- Participate in Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences three times per year
- Communicate regularly with families about academic and social progress
- Co-host IEP meetings
- Build and maintain strong school culture centered on student achievement
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the success of the school mission
- Participate in weekly professional development sessions
- Participate in weekly grade-level team meetings
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Demonstrated subject matter competence and a sound understanding of the Common Core
- Background clearance
- 1-3 years of experience teaching English
- Understanding of culturally responsive education
- Commitment to standards-based teaching and learning
- Focus on student outcomes
- Ability to build student-centered learning environments
- Proven track record of achieving academic success with a diverse student body
- Passion for Salem Academy Charter School’s mission and vision
- Experience fostering effective inclusion practices and a safe, positive, and respectful class and school culture
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 1-3 years of experience teaching English
Nice to Have
- Possession of Massachusetts Teacher Certification or successful completion of the MTEL (MTEL completion required in first year)
- Multilingual, including in Spanish and English
- Experience designing and successfully implementing culturally responsive curriculum
- Similar life experiences as our students
- Excitement about integrating academics with service work
- Interest in working collaboratively to improve instruction for all students
