10th Grade ELA Teacher - Maternity Leave Substitute

About This Role

Teach 10th-grade English Language Arts at a nationally ranked urban charter school, focusing on rigorous college-preparatory instruction and service to the community. This role involves monitoring student progress, differentiating instruction, and collaborating with colleagues to foster student achievement.

Responsibilities

• Align curricular standards with state guidelines
• Monitor student progress through standards-based assessments
• Analyze student data
• Differentiate instruction
• Teach 4 English classes per day
• Reserve 2 periods for preparation and collaboration
• Tutor one day per week after school
• Support, plan, and/or co-lead Service-Learning projects
• Advise students through daily Connections class (homeroom)
• Input academic and behavioral data on the school data management system
• Participate in Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences three times per year
• Communicate regularly with families about academic and social progress
• Co-host IEP meetings
• Build and maintain strong school culture centered on student achievement
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the success of the school mission
• Participate in weekly professional development sessions
• Participate in weekly grade-level team meetings

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree
• Demonstrated subject matter competence and a sound understanding of the Common Core
• Background clearance
• 1-3 years of experience teaching English
• Understanding of culturally responsive education
• Commitment to standards-based teaching and learning
• Focus on student outcomes
• Ability to build student-centered learning environments
• Proven track record of achieving academic success with a diverse student body

• Experience fostering effective inclusion practices and a safe, positive, and respectful class and school culture

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• 1-3 years of experience teaching English

Nice to Have

• Possession of Massachusetts Teacher Certification or successful completion of the MTEL (MTEL completion required in first year)
• Multilingual, including in Spanish and English
• Experience designing and successfully implementing culturally responsive curriculum
